Where we are up to
One of the priority actions identified by the Aboriginal Justice Caucus in their work on self-determination in the justice system was an Aboriginal-led review of Victoria's progress implementing recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.
A Treasurer’s Advance of $0.48 million to support this work and a related submission to the Yoorrook Justice Commission was announced in November 2021. Further funding to complete this project was allocated in the 2022-23 Budget. Initiatives to progress Aboriginal self-determination in justice are captured in the Aboriginal Justice Agreement and related initiatives, i.e. Wirkara Kulpa as developed and advocated for by Caucus.
